Russian Academy of Sciences – Российская академия наук

Another one of the Libraries’ long-standing
partners in our exchange program is the Russian
Academy of Sciences
, located in Moscow, Russia. The Russian Academy
of Sciences
was established pursuant to the order of the Emperor Peter I by the Decree of the Ruling Senate dated January 28 (February 8),
1724. The Academy was reinstated by the Decree of the President of the
Russian Federation dated November 21, 1991
as the supreme scientific
institution of Russia.  The Russian
Academy of Sciences (RAS) is a civil self-governed non-commercial organization
and is the legal successor of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR within the
territory of the Russian Federation.

The principal aim of the Russian Academy of
Sciences is the organization and performance of research for the purpose of
obtaining further knowledge of the natural, social, and human development
principles that promote technological, economic, social and cultural
development in Russia.

Three of the many titles the Libraries receive are Voprosy ikhtiologii which covers fish ecology, morphology, genetics, physiology, embryology, systematics, and fisheries biology, Paleontologicheskiĭ zhurnal which publishes original work on the anatomy, morphology, and taxonomy of fossil organisms, as well as their distribution, ecology, and origin, and Trudy Zoologicheskogo instituta which is a peer-reviewed journal on zoology.

We have been receiving publications and corresponding with the Russian Academy of Sciences since the early 20th century.  Below are a few of the documents the Libraries has on file from the 1950's and 1960's.
