On Thursday, April 22nd, the Libraries celebrated “Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work Day.” This national event, which occurs annually every fourth Friday of April, fosters creativity, fun, and hands-on exploration of the working world to children of all ages. On March 22nd of this year, the United States Congress passed a resolution to recognize “Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work Day.”
The Smithsonian Institution held activities across the National Mall for children, this year’s theme being "1 Dream, 2Morrow’s Leader." Led by technicians Richard Naples and Phuong Pham, the Libraries hosted Fold, Pull, Pop & Turn: Make your own Pop-Up Card. Children used unique card cut-outs, colored construction paper, stickers, crayons and magazine pictures to design, create, and decorate their own pop-up cards. The activity was in conjunction with the Libraries new exhibition, titled Paper Engineering: Fold, Pull, Pop & Turn, opening in the National Museum of American History on June 14th.
