Yo-Yos!

In early February, the Libraries hosted a film crew from Katie Couric’s CBS Evening News at the National Museum of American History Library. The book of interest? “Lucky's Collectors Guide to 20th Century Yo-Yos: History & Values,” written by Dr. Lucky J. Meisenheimer. The crew took footage of the book for a brief feature on the nightly news program.

Dr. Meisenheimer holds the Guinness World Record for the largest yo-yo collection, his accumulation surpassing 10,000 pieces. His largest yo-yo, the Shakamak Yo-Yo, rises six feet tall and weighs 820 pounds. Meisenheimer has also been listed in Ripley’s Believe It or Not for an eccentric feat: swimming half a mile with his foot in his mouth. He is a practicing physician in a private dermatology clinic in Orlando, Florida, and has served as the Chief of the Dermatology Division at the Orlando Regional Medical Center since 2003.—Liz O'Brien
