This month’s featured exchange
partner is Chulalongkorn
University in Bangkok, Thailand. We have been corresponding and exchanging publications
with them since 1976, when a curator from the National Museum of Natural
History established a scholarly interchange with a Chulalongkorn University biologist in
which we provided our research publications in return for some biological specimens of loliginid squids for
our museum collections.
As a result and benefit of the
scientific exchange between the Museum and the University, the Libraries receives from them the Natural History Journal of
Chulalongkorn University, and now Tropical Natural
History, in return for various Smithsonian Contributions series.
Chulalongkorn is a
public university established in 1917, and now has twenty faculties and schools
covering diverse fields reflecting the growth of the country since the
nineteenth century. Some of the
faculties include Allied Health Sciences, Architecture and Art, Commerce and
Accountancy, Engineering, Political Science, and Veterinary Science.
Its Bangkok campus occupies 520
acres, and it has a population of about 20,419 undergraduates and
11,477 postgraduates.
associated with the University are the Petroleum and Petrochemical College, the
Institute of Biotechnology and Genetic Engineering, the Environmental Research
Institute, and the Sasin Business School, which was founded “with the support
and collaboration of the Kellogg School of Management and the Wharton Business
School.”
