The Libraries has many images in both the National Zoological Park Library and Joseph F. Cullman 3rd Library of Natural History that we would like to feature during Zoo and Aquarium Month. We'd like to start with an item from 1858 for the tropical fish hobbyist, The Family aquarium; or, aqua vivarium . . . being a familiar and complete instructor upon the subject of the construction, fitting-up, stocking, and maintenance of the fluvial and marine aquaria . . . , by Henry D. Butler.
The "Illustration of a large Victorian fresh water aquarium" doesn't look all that different from the set-ups that you might find today, does it?—Elizabeth Periale
