We checked for candy related catalogs in the Trade Literature Collection at the National Museum of American History Library and found the Ice Cream and Candy Makers’ Factory Guide. It’s a 1907 catalog from the Horizontal Freezer Co. of Chicago, IL. According to the preface, it “is intended to be a ‘Guide’ not only to the beginner, but an every-day assistant to the expert…”
It includes lots of candy recipes—peanut butter cups, fudge, taffy, caramel candy, stick candy, nut candies, fruit candies, and more. It also includes tips and suggestions for making candy and explanations of cooking terms.
Additional images from this catalog and other items from the trade literature collection can be found on flickr. Happy National Candy Day!
