The Libraries is currently featuring this image of Bartholomew Roberts, perhaps better known as “Black Bart” in its Galaxy of Images. Welshman Black Bart pirated ships off of the coasts of the Americas and West Africa in the 1700’s. Captain Charles Johnson told of him and other sea rovers in his 1724 book A general history of the pyrates. . .
