Located in the Trade Literature Collection at the National Museum of American History Library are several catalogs by Lyon & Healy, a musical instrument manufacturing company. Today Lyon & Healy is known primarily for their harps, but the company’s beginnings included sheet music, uniforms, and a variety of musical instruments.

The Libraries recently launched a new donation program, Adopt-a-Book.
Donors can choose to make an unrestricted gift, and the Libraries will apply where it is needed the most. Acquisitions, conservation, digitization, exhibitions, and research initiatives all represent areas that could benefit from these donations.
The Libraries would like to highlight some new titles that have been added recently to the Cooper-Hewitt Design Museum Library.
On the afternoon of April 8 the National Museum of the American Indian (NMAI) Librarian, Lynne Altstatt, provided a tour for a group of thirteen recently graduated students from the Emporia State University’s School of Library and Information Management and three faculty members.

On March 31, 2011, President Barack Obama issued a Presidential Proclamation declaring April 2011 National Financial Literacy Month. With many Americans currently suffering financial hardships due to the recent recession, National Financial Literacy Month was enacted to increase the public’s understanding of our economic system and promote financial stability.
