As the Manager for Preservation Services at the National Museum of American History, I oversee and direct the work of the Museum’s three conservation laboratories (Costume/Textiles, Objects, and Paper) and direct the preservation activities of the museum. This year, I was selected to participate in the Smithsonian Institution’s Palmer Leadership Development Program. As part of the program, I am required to work at another Smithsonian unit for 20 to 30 days while performing my normal duties. The program aims to expand my knowledge and abilities through performing new tasks as well as expanding my overall knowledge of the Smithsonian.

It’s less than a week away, but there are still tickets available for our Adopt-a-Book event next Thursday! Enjoy a unique and lively evening to benefit the Smithsonian Libraries’ rare book and preservation programs. The event will feature German food, wine and beer, and entertainment. Guests will have the opportunity to browse a trove of remarkable and historic volumes and are invited to learn more about the Libraries’ special collections and why they must be preserved.

My name is Devon Lemire, and this summer I interned with the Libraries’ Office of Advancement for three months. I’m from Edmonton, Alberta, Canada (about a six hour drive north of the border with western Montana). I just graduated with my BA Honours in History from the University of Alberta in Edmonton this past spring and this fall I will be starting a Master’s degree in History, again at the University of Alberta. After that I plan on going to Library school!
